Christian Lamotte


Christian Lamotte provides Chateau des Fleurs and Le Coq d’Or with a trifecta of skills and talents! Some obtained from experience, others from family traditions but all loved by the guests of Le Coq d’Or!

Before moving to the US in 1979, Christian began his long journey of hospitality when he was just 13 years old. Christian would spend his summers washing dishes for his cousins restaurant and helping his Grandmother make crepes. Not long after those summers Christian completed a cooking apprenticeship and later graduated from the French Culinary Institute of Brest, Brittany in France.

Christian developed his lasting appreciation for food and table service while working at Le Louis XV and Le Petit Victor Hugo Restaurant in Paris owned by Brigitte Bardot, not only did he cater to the Stars but had a gorgeous Boss. After graduating Christian found himself inspired by his Father who was a great French Chef and both of his Uncles. They had all immigrated to New York and started their own restaurants. Christian felt moved to do the same.

Christian then moved to California to work as an Executive Chef for Charmer’s Market and then to Malibu at the famous Beau Rivage. Finally Christian found his home in Idaho. He started in Sun Valley and worked as Part Owner/Chef for Chez Michel and then opened his own restaurant in Ketchum by the name of Mango.

Christian has served and established relationships with names such as Johnny Carson, Larry Hagman, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Bette Davis, Clint Eastwood, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Lee Curtis, Janet Leigh, Jack Nicholson and their families

The great Idaho outdoors captured Christian’s heart and he relocated to Boise where he settled down and raised his three children, two beautiful twin girls and a handsome son. In Boise Christian began restaurant consultations and attributed to the success of several Treasure Valley establishments such as Cottonwood Grill and Shore Lodge in Mc Call. He contracted with the Idaho Department of Agriculture which required several trips to Mexico and Taiwan promoting Idaho products, we’re sure his French accent added some charm.

With all that being said there is no doubt as to why the Chateau feels they have quite the gem with Christian as our Maitre d’hotel. He does a wonderful job managing the daily operations of the restaurants front of the house processes, the wine program and ensuring nothing but the best for each guest who walks through our doors. We are grateful that he shares his French culture with us by leading in the restaurants French traditional events such as Beaujolais Nouveau In November, Bastille and Petanque Day’s in July, Harvest and Wine Dinner in the fall.
